Kirklees Model Boat Club
Welcome to Kirklees Model Boat Club. The club was first registered in the magazine, Model Boats in February 1978 as having twenty members.
The first chairman and founder member was Joe Strand. The club at this time was called, Kirklees Model Club, as club members also ran model cars, boats, tanks, and round the pole flying. In the years that followed the activities were refined down to model boat building and sailing, the club name then changed along with adopting the Swan logo.
Kirklees Model Boat Club promotes the hobby of model building and sailing, we meet as a club every Sunday Morning on the Park Lake, Wilton Park, Bradford Road, Birstall, Batley. West Yorkshire. The area is a public park, whereby members of the public can also sail any-time they wish.
We meet about 8am in the morning on Sundays and about 12 noon on Wednesdays and Thursdays. You will see us there all year round come rain or shine. Members have been known to 'break the ice' during winter in order to sail. Always a warm drink available every Sunday Morning. We also have a Lock up container which houses all the club equipment and rescue boats.
Membership is open to anyone who wishes to join, there are no restrictions and no limits on membership, we are a friendly club with our members having a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience on offer, on just about the whole range of marine subjects, from recreational, merchant, naval, and sailing craft, to submarines and hovercraft and will assist anyone with their model building.
