Making Coiled Ropes
Stan Reffin.
During my minesweeper build I decided to fit some coiled ropes but making them was not easy. I have devised a way to help make the ropes coiled by gluing a piece of plastic tube on to a piece of plastic card, a small hole was drilled in the base of the tube to hold the rope and the following was then carried out.
1. Soak rope in thinned P V A glue. Prior to placing the rope on the plastic sheet you may wish to rub a candle around the area of the former this should help to release the dried rope.
2. Place the end of the rope in the drilled hole in the base of the tube.
3. Wind the rope around the former using the two cocktail sticks. Use the sticks to guide the rope and roll the rope to keep it flat and leave to dry over night. Remove next morning and clean up and glue in place or paint if needed.
